There’s something inherently fascinating about holding miniature replicas of everyday items in the palm of your hand. The imperceptible detail guides your brain towards a sense of child-like wonderment. In this camp we’ll celebrate all things small, but exquisitely formed, exploring miniature worlds through literature. Christianne will begin each day with a synopsis of classic works (think The Borrowers, Gulliver’s Travels, Brambly Hedge) to get both the excitement, and the creative juices flowing.
The craft for this particular week will speak so much to your inner child, that we think you’ll want to join too. We’ll be repurposing no longer loved lunch boxes (whether you have one in mind at home, or would like us to provide) to house new and intriguing miniature worlds.
As a group, we’ll ideate and ruminate before raiding the Lyceum, its surrounding area, and local thrift stores for materials to use. Apart from the physical boundaries of your box, there is no limit to what students can create. It might be their favourite room of the house, one they’d like to memorialize in case you move, a scene from a treasured book or movie, or simply what takes their fancy on the day.
We can guarantee that these creations will be keepsakes forever, what we can’t guarantee is that you won’t find yourselves playing with them long after your children are asleep.
