Folk and Art Lore from Around the World

August 4 to 7 (4 afternoons)

Christianne has one of the best collections of folktales from diverse cultures around the world. The rich tapestries of these cultures are so wonderfully showcased through each story that we can almost guarantee a completely captivated audience.
Each day after delving into the literature as a group, we will focus on an art or craft inspired by the tale itself. Using Julie Lawson’s The Dragon’s Pearl as initial inspiration, students will create decoupaged oyster shells replete with precious pearls. Your child may choose to place these on the mantle piece for all to see, or tuck them away to absorb good dreams bedside.
Another day, Christianne will guide the group through the adventures of Wabi Sabi (Mark Reibstein and Ed Young), so campers can learn how to collage with fabric and wood veneer.
Throughout the week, students will hear tales from faraway realms and then discover how freeing it is to break away from conventional art mediums to express creative intentions through textures and tones they may never have come across before.
