A Lyceum summer camp feature from years gone by, geocaching is a treasure hunt riveting enough to capture the attention of all ages. The act of geocaching speaks to the hide-and-go-seek sensibilities of our childhood, making for a wonderful family activity that strengthens directional skills whilst encouraging unbridled joy.

Christianne will start each day by reading an excerpt from Kate Messner’s book, The Exact Location of Home where protagonists Zig and Gianna find a GPS unit and use it to hunt geocaches. Zig believes the clues they find will help them find his missing dad. Using this heartfelt story as an introduction or reacquaintance to local cache culture, we will glean tips about what makes an exciting discovery, before coming together to design and hide our own. We will also adventure into the neighbourhood to find geocaches and add our name to the miniature log books that lie within.

Past Lyceum geocaches in the Jericho beach area continue to be found today and we can’t wait to add to our repertoire.
