Collecting Rare Wonders

There’s something about searching and collecting that speaks to the instinctual explorer in all of us. When we let children roam free, what do we notice?! They poke between branches and look under rocks, they rifle through overflowing boxes to find just the right treasure, the thing that’s exactly what they need to add to their collection. Christianne will ignite these passions with stories about collectors driven with the desire to find “rare” additions to their cache.
We’ll spend the week celebrating the collector in each of us by creating a keepsake box for storing precious items. Students will be guided through how best to fit glass mosaic tiles together to achieve something unique to them.
Each day the group will explore different kinds of collections; everything from stamps to coins, cards, and shells. We’ll discuss what makes something valuable and look at its rarity in context. If the weather is good, we will trek down to the beach, foraging sea glass, shells and rocks, expressing gratitude to Mother Nature for bringing these treasures safely to our collection boxes.
