When it comes to J.R.R. Tolkien, there really is no comparison! His ability to completely draw readers into another world, a world of his own creation, is truly unparalleled. All this is to say that we can completely understand why our auction winner Sacha chose to build a camp around The Lord of the Rings. Over the past few years, Sacha’s passion for Tolkien has been ignited through reading this timeless series and he’ll be sharing some of his illustrated collection (complementing our own) with the group. 

We’ll then move on to Sasha’s favourite craft as epic as the journey to Mount Doom. Using The Two Towers as inspiration, students will spend the week designing, creating and completing a mosaic tile serving tray. Christianne will guide the group through sketching out their chosen scene from the book that is compatible with the “language” of ceramic tile. After learning the basics of cutting, students will nip, lay and glue tile across the bottom of the tray, watching their vision quickly come to life. Unsanded grout will hold everything in place as acrylic paint is applied to the edges and outside of the tray. Whether they choose to take this home for trinkets, tea, or as an artistic showcase, we suspect this will be a “keeper” that your camper will take to their college dorm.
