Discourse & Debate for Older Learners

The art of debate is both subtle and complex, often cloaked in pomp and circumstance. At the Lyceum we want to make it accessible to all.

As part of this study pod, Christianne and her talented staff will help students establish the rules of the game, how proceedings move from one stage to the next, and the art of the verbal dance. Opening up to a broader age range, we’ll find creative ways to represent each argument - from cue cards to organically evolving mind maps, we’ll eschew the formal standards of written research. As a group we’ll host informal debates to aid students both younger and older in getting their points across while building confidence and strengthening stepping stones. 

 

This class is both a great refresher and a strong foundation for those who may want to explore debate further, or those who simply want to dip their toe in the fountain of knowledge.
