The Secret Garden
TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 2022
9:00 AM TO 4:30 PM
AGES 5 TO 13
This literary classic is nestled mid-week, giving us time to smell the flowers and enjoy longer bouts of sunshine. Building on something the Lyceum does best, we’ll be imparting our mosaic wisdom into each and every camper. We’ll make sure to ground our craft in Frances Hodgson Burnett’s original tale of how a young girl, raised without love, learns to care for others in a way she never experienced herself. Campers will represent aspects of Mary’s famous “Secret Garden,” choosing from Ben Weatherstaff’s resident robin, Dickon’s fox pup, snowdrops, daffydowndillys or a creeping rose, on a coaster to take home and treasure.
The message of this timeless piece has resonated with children for centuries; consider this your invitation to sample a slice of delicious history with us.
Note: Grouting of these special pieces will happen overnight, so please factor in a quick return visit the next day or later in the week. Each camper will take home a mystery bulb to nurture in the weeks ahead.
After losing her parents, young Mary Lennox is sent from India to live in her uncle's gloomy mansion on the wild English moors. She is lonely and has no one to play with, but one day she learns of a secret garden somewhere in the grounds that no one is allowed to enter. Then Mary uncovers an old key in a flowerbed - and a gust of magic leads her to the hidden door. Slowly she turns the key and enters a world she could never have imagined.
