When the Sea Turned to Silver

9:00 AM TO 4:30 PM

This is a book in which the illustrations undoubtedly rival the beauty of the story itself. Grace Lin’s When the Sea Turned to Silver chronicles the kidnapping of Pinmei’s beloved grandmother. Imagine if all of a sudden, in the middle of your favourite book, the words just disappeared. Wouldn’t you move quickie, frantically trying to track them down so that the story could continue? That’s exactly what Pinmei does.

Each participant will create a vast and varied multimedia collage perfect for an office, bedroom or living room wall (or as a treasure gift for family you may not have seen in a while). We’ll use fabric and paint to adorn a canvas board, using textured paper to recreate the dragon, making sure not to miss a heavy wash of glitter for the enchanting ocean waves.

The book...

Pinmei's gentle, loving grandmother always has the most exciting tales for her granddaughter and the other villagers. However, the peace is shattered one night when soldiers of the Emperor arrive and kidnap the storyteller.Everyone knows that the Emperor wants something called the Luminous Stone That Lights the Night. Determined to have her grandmother returned, Pinmei embarks on a journey to find the Luminous Stone alongside her friend Yishan, a mysterious boy who seems to have his own secrets to hide.
