Destination: Puddleby-on-the-Marsh

AGES: 5 TO 12

9:00 AM TO 4:30 PM

There were many things that a global pandemic forced us to leave behind, but we’re ready to pick up right where we left off. We never got the chance to explore the outlandish world of Dr. Dolittle, a man with unique talents, who tells a story many of us wish for ourselves. On a special assignment sent by the monkeys of Africa, Dolittle realizes that not only can he hear the animals around him, but he has the ability to truly understand them. Across the day, we will read excerpts from the book, creating and capturing our very own felted (and extremely rare) two-headed pushmi-pullyu that will jump straight from the book and into our hearts.

Campers will also get the opportunity to design and make a deck of themed playing cards. With roots in this world and an altogether more magical one, don’t be surprised if your children come home thinking that anything is possible.

The book...

Doctor John Dolittle loves animals. He loves them so much that his home and office overflow with animals of every description. When Polynesia the parrot teaches him the language of the animals, Doctor Dolittle becomes a world-famous doctor, traveling even as far away as Africa to help his friends. This edition of the beloved children's classic contains black-and-white illustrations by Michael Hague and has been edited by award-winning authors Patricia and Fredrick McKissack for modern audiences.
